Skills Upgrades and (OSHA Safety) certificates

Economic competition and technological changes pose a challenge to job seekers and / or employees who do not have their skills up to date. The Solano Employment Connection sponsors short skills upgrade training events that support the need for lifelong learning and provide a certificate upon completion.

40 Hour Hazwoper - The Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) is a certificated class for anyone who is interested in employment that includes working with hazardous substances, including hazardous waste. This certification must be kept up to date yearly with the Refresher.

8 Hour Hazwoper Refresher Course - OSHA requires the worker, which already has a Hazwoper certification, to refresh their certificate annually, for workers on hazardous waste sites. The free course includes classroom learning, realistic hands-on activities and certifies the worker that they have completed an awareness class for 12 month period.

Disaster Site Response = 16 Hour OSHA Disaster Site Worker Course - The Disaster Site Worker Response is a training program for Disaster Site Workers who provide skilled support services, (e.g. utility, demolition, debris removal, or heavy equipment operation) in response to natural and man-made disasters. Specifically, it is recognized that all workers at disaster sites need to be aware of the differences between disaster sites and regular construction or demolition worksites and be able to inspect, don, and doff air-purifying respirators.  ***Must have completed an OSHA 10 class previous to taking this class.

DOT Practical - Dept. of Transportation requires this course for all workers involved in the transportation of hazardous materials. OSHA-10 Construction - covers OSHA standards, electrical safety, fall protection and other topics, chosen to match the training needs and job tasks of the workers attending the course. Upon successful completion of this course, each worker receives an "OSHA 10-Hour Card" that certifies that the worker has completed 10 hours.
