Q. I’m looking for a job. Where do I begin?
A. Visit a Solano Employment Connection site in Vallejo or Fairfield. Any staff there can walk you through the available employment resources and how to get started on your job search. You can also visit CalJOBS and click on “Find a Job” or “More Career Resources.” For additional tips on looking for employment, check out the Job Search Resources page.
Q. What can I do at a Solano Employment Connection location?
A. At the Solano Employment Connection (SEC), job seekers have access to many free services including job searching activities, browsing job postings, participating in short-term skills training or workshops, use the computer lab to build a resume or use the internet. You can also use the SEC fax machine, copy machine, and public telephones. A number of job search specialists are available to help you navigate the resources.
Q. Do you have funding for training?
A. Some funded training opportunities are available through the Workforce Development Board (WDB) as part of the Career Training Tract. To access training funds, you must meet eligibility requirements and be determined suitable for training. Check out the Skills Training page to learn more.
Q. Is this the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Office?
A. No, the Solano Employment Connection is not an Unemployment Insurance Office. You can ask questions about your UI claim by using one of the designated UI phones in our Job Centers between 8am and 12pm or by using one of the SEC computers to contact EDD on their website and asking your question.
Q. How do I file for Unemployment Insurance (UI), Disability Insurance (DI) or Paid Family Leave (PFL)?
A. Unemployment Insurance (UI) – You may file a UI claim on the EDD UI website, by using one of the UI phones at the SEC, by calling 1-800-300-5616, or by mailing a completed application which can be found on the “EDD Resources” section of the information wall at the SEC.
Disability Insurance (DI) – You may file a DI claim on the EDD DI website, by calling 1-877-238-4373, or by obtaining a claim form packet on the “EDD Resources” section of the information wall at the SEC and following the instructions.
Paid Family Leave (PFL) – You may file a claim for PFL on the EDD DI website, by calling 1-877-238-4373, or by obtaining a claim form packet on the “EDD Resources” section of the information wall at the SEC.
Q. How can I get a copy of my work history?
A. Complete a Work History Request Form found on the “EDD Resources” section of the information wall located in the SEC. Complete the form and either fax or mail it following the directions listed on the form.
Q. I am not very good on computers, can I get help?
A. We can get you started using a computer. If you need lots of one-on-one assistance, we suggest that you attend one of our short-term computer classes (see calendar) or visit our Resource Center to get started on a self-paced tutorial.
Q. I forgot my CalJOBS Username and/or password. What do I do?
A. At the CalJOBS Home Page, choose “Forgot Username/Password”. On the next screen select an option to retrieve your username and/or password or call the CalJOBS customer service number 1-800-758-0398 for assistance.
